Golf Holidays in Greece

Greece has at the time only five 18-hole courses:

1) Glyfada Golf Club Athens

2) Afantou on the island of Rhodes,

3) Chersonissos on the island of Crete

4) Corfu Golf & Country Club at Corfu Island

5) Porto Carras at Chalkidiki peninsula,

and in Elounda on the island of Crete (9-hole course).

There are currently two courses under construction and several others on the drawing board.

The Greek government declared the political will to support the construction of more Golf Courses all over the country. This is put into practice through the new legal framework and investment law (Law 2601/98). A dynamic investment strategy for the development of high-level tourist facilities, resorts that combine villas, apartments, and hotels. The new golf courses built on large plots of land, including health spas, marinas and conference centers, will support and develop business and leisure activities in Greece. "We would like to have over 20 golf resorts in place within the next 5 years. We're making the process of getting permits easier and we’re accelerating several bureaucratic procedures." said Mr. Peter Doukas, Greece's Deputy Finance Minister, and President of the Hellenic Golf Federation. Greece offers advantages to foreign investors for the golf course investments such as, Cash grant 40%, Loan interest subsidy 40%, Leasing subsidy 40% Or: Tax allowance 100%, Loan interest subsidy 40%. The success of the two new Golf courses, at Porto Carras in Chalkidiki and at Chersonissos in Crete demonstrated the strong interest of tourists to golf and showed the clear potential for more golf courses throughout Greece
